The purpose of a Plusoptix vision screening device is to empower primary health care providers to detect most prevalent vision disorders in children as early as possible. The earlier a vision disorder is detected the better it can be treated, and Amblyopia, i.e. a lazy eye, can be prevented.
Plusoptix Vision Screeners use the measuring principle of a transillumination test.Unlike other transillumination tests (e.g. Red Reflex test), Plusoptix devices avoid glare of the patient, by using infrared light. The pupils remain large even without dilation.
A Plusoptix Vision Screener is the missing piece for AAP compliance and reimbursement options, because it meets the guidelines of AAP Policy statement and is eligible for CPT Code 99177 reimbursement (for Pediatricians) and LCIF Grant Funding (for Lions Clubs).

"Our newly acquired Plusoptix vision screener has made our vision screenings quick and portable. Allowing me to bring the device to the child or the child to the device. This is helpful when working with 3-5 year olds that might have a difficult time transitioning. The Plusoptix is quick in capturing the vision screening result even with fidgety 3-5 year olds. When we have questions or need help with our machine, their service department is quick to respond and help."
After receiving amazing technical support and helpful tips from the company’s representatives, we have been able to screen our groups more accurately and speedily.
I am giving PlusOptix 10/10 on customer service. It is really refreshing to see (basically) a tech company get it right for a change. Tammy, Richard, and Rebecca were generous with their time and attention, cared about my problems, and assured me they would be promptly addressed.
Both eyes are measured simultaneously from one meter distance and in less than a second. With the determined measurement values compared to age specific thresholds, a “Pass” or “Refer” vision screening result is displayed. Children with a “Refer” result need to be sent to an eye care professional for an eye examination.
- Simultaneous measurement of both eyes (binocular)
- Measurement from one meter distance
- Measurement in less than one second
- Measurement in undilated pupils

Plusoptix vision screening devices provide reliable measurement values of:
- Full refraction recording, i.e. sphere, cylinder, and axis for follow-up examination
- Pupil diameter and pupil distance
- Symmetry of corneal reflexes
Checking the result page “camera image” means you can detect media opacities, which do not lead to a measurement interruption. In addition to the measurement values, a “Refer” or “Pass” vision screening result is displayed. Children with a “Refer” result need to be sent to an eye care professional for an eye examination.
