To provide a baseline refraction in the context of an entry exam

The purpose of a Plusoptix Binocular autorefractor is to provide a baseline refraction in the context of an entry exam, to identify false-positive referrals. Plusoptix autorefractors use the measuring principle of the transillumination test. This measuring principle avoids glare of the patient by using infrared light. The pupils remain large even without dilation.

If a cycloplegic retinoscopy is required, the baseline refraction provides a valuable starting point for myopia, astigmatism and axis measurements. Performing a cycloplegic retinoscopy with these measurements at hand is quick and easy, thus saving precious chair time.

Application

Both eyes can be measured simultaneously from one meter (i.e. 3.3 feet) away in less than one second. Due to measurement distance and binocular assessment, recordings of astigmatism, axis, myopia, and anisometropia in sphere as well as cylinder are accurate, even in undilated pupils. Hyperopia recordings are likely to be underestimated, but can easily, and rapidly confirmed either by a second measurement through +3dpt corrective glasses, or by cycloplegic retinoscopy. A Plusoptix autorefractor in the hands of an orthoptist, or ophthalmic technician saves an eye care professional precious chair time.

  • Children can be measured starting at 5 months of age
  • Measurement is delegable and can easily be performed by an ophthalmic technician
  • Can also be used in cycloplegia under certain conditions
  • Binocular measurements from 1 meter (3.3 feet) away in less than 1 second enable measurements in infants (5 months and older). Therefore Plusoptix autorefractors are often referred to as “pediatric” autorefractors, but there is no limitation to children. Adults can be measured as well.
 
Measurement results

Plusoptix binocular autorefractors provide reliable measurement values of:

  • Full refraction recording, i.e. sphere, cylinder, and axis for follow-up examination
  • Pupil diameter and pupil distance
  • Symmetry of corneal reflexes

Checking the result page “camera image” means you can detect media opacities, which do not lead to a measurement interruption.

Documentation options

A seamless integration of the new equipment in the existing workflow is crucial. Therefore, Plusoptix offers various documentation options to choose from. The measurement results can be documented electronically or on paper.

Documenting electronically:

 
  • Save measurement reports on your workplace computer or attach them manually to your electronic patient records
  • Connect device for csv data exchange to save measurement reports and measurement values automatically to your Electronic Medical Record.
 

Documenting on paper:

  • Print out the measurement values to attach them to a patient paper record
  • Print a self-adhesive label on the wireless IR label printer plusoptiX P12
  • Print a screening report on a mobile USB or any already existing network printer.
